Palm trial jurors deliberate in first degree murder case
Jury deliberation began on the second day of the Palm murder trial in Frederick County Circuit Court. Samuel Edwin Palm Jr is accused of killing Jesse James Ballard, 38, near Bennetts Creek and Urbana. Prosecutor Dorsey says the confrontation was pre planned. Palm contends Ballard attacked him first and the knife defense claim is part of the self defense. The defense notes Palm surrendered within hours. Ten jurors and two alternates were chosen from a pool of 50 ruled white. About 16 witnesses testified, including a taped police interview made about five hours after the incident.
