Death sentence commuted for Baltimore man in rape case
Governor McKeldin commuted the death sentence of Jeremiah Driver, a 19 year old Baltimore Negro, to life imprisonment for the rape of two women. He cited Driver's defective makeup and dull normal intelligence as factors in sparing the condemned man. The governor has not allowed any executions since taking office in January 1951 and this is his fourth commuting decision.

May Revise Auto Rates
New York April 9 Insurers study possible revisions to the national automobile insurance classification plan with expected downward shifts for some preferred categories and increases for others to balance costs.
