Nations sign landmark 109 country trade accord in Marrakesh
In Marrakesh Morocco 109 nations signed the Uruguay Round of GATT ending seven years of talks. The 26000 page pact promises over 200 billion in global income growth within a decade by cutting barriers to trade from chips to food while phasing out agricultural subsidies. It foresees a new World Trade Organization to replace GATT in 1995 but signals remaining disputes on labor standards immigration and sanctions.
