Committee Narrowly Restores BoE Budget Cut In Part
Montgomery County education committee voted to restore only a fraction of the board of education budget cut, approving 288,643 to support a staff training academy and transportation and administration proposals. County Executive Gilchrist had denied larger sums, arguing the academy funding wasn’t fully developed and transportation and admin areas needed tighter control. Board members argued the academy is essential for improving academic achievement, while others warned against expanding training and administration costs.
