Dentists Aid Blood Pressure Testing in Maryland Program
Eight Frederick County dentists and 13 dental assistants join a state high blood pressure control program for dental health professionals. All 21 are certified in the American Heart Association course on detection, referral, follow up and counseling. The Braddock Heights Optimist Club held its annual Oratorical Contest on April 7 with the topic Commitment to Share. Dennis C. Crolley won, David Reilly was second, and judges included Fort Detrick officials Hilda Newcomer Clair Belle Moon and Col. Irvis E. Jenkins. George Barthe Grafica Cost and Gordon Taylor were honored for 24 years of continuous service. two new members Robert Reece and Sam Gebbda were welcomed.

Reagan bullet nearly hit heart on shot to president
Dr Benjamin Aaron said the bullet that struck President Reagan stopped only an inch from his heart and was explosive. He described difficulties in removing it and noted Reagan arrived at the White House soon after the shooting, with hospital officials revising earlier optimistic statements. The physician warned that leaving the bullet could have caused severe complications. Additionally, Acting Mayor Gustav J. Akerland died after shooting himself amid fiscal worries. Baltimore crime up 47 percent in first quarter
Baltimore police report a 47 percent rise in violent crime in the first quarter of 1981 from the previous year. Robberies climbed from 1,841 to 2,999, burglaries rose 28 percent, auto thefts 20 percent, and murders totaled 60 up from 50.
