A county health officer reports measles and scarlet fever as the dominant communicable diseases in the past month. In the county there were 69 measles, 12 scarlet fever cases, plus diphtheria 4, pneumonia 5, tuberculosis 6, and erysipelas 1. city had 121 measles and 29 scarlet fever cases. Scarlet fever remains a major concern with outbreaks common in children two to ten years old. it can be mild to severe and may cause lasting heart issues. Doctors warn the disease spreads easily and tends to intensify in winter and spring.
