Mary Goddard the Revolutionary Baltimore Printer

Mary Katherine Goddard, a pioneering printer and publisher in Baltimore during the American Revolution, defied calls to reveal the author of a controversial article in the Maryland Journal. She ran the Gazette with her brother William, promoted post office work, expanded to bookbinding and goods, and kept the paper afloat during paper shortages and inflation. She served as Baltimore postmaster from 1775 to 1780 and remained a key figure in press freedom and patriot activities.
