Dates for the seventh annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival were announced as Thursday and Friday April 24 and 25 in Winchester. Wesson F. Richard said the event will crown Miss Suzanne Pollard, daughter of Governor Pollard, as festival queen with a large court from Virginia and nearby states. The festival funds come from local citizens, fruit growers, railroads and business people. A separate note reports a new one acre addition to the State fish hatchery near Lewistown granted to the Conservation Department, with buildings. In a later brief, the village of Haiusa near Laibach was reported destroyed by fire, one child killed.

Pen Night Guards Chief Resigns at Baltimore Penitentiary
John A. Kirby, night chief of guards at the Baltimore penitentiary, resigned after a dispute with Warden Patrick A. Brady over interior management. Kirby served nearly twelve years and was appointed guard in 1820 before rising to chief of guards shortly before Colonel Sweezey's resignation.

Lime Plant Acquired by Schildkniecht and Wife at Auction
Through two deeds filed with the Clerk of Court the Buckepstown lime plant and 140 acres with hydrate plant, buildings, and appurtenances changed hands from receivers to Catrin E. Schildkniecht and husband then to Eloy J. Herman and wife. The $19,395 auction purchase occurred in early fall under Ghent Court order ratified November 5, 1929. Herman began operations and the plant has been running since.
