County funds set for Community Volunteer Service program
Frederick County commissioners approved a $15,000 administrator position for an alternative sentencing plan run by the Mental Health Association. The program, a work-release style system, offers offenders 50 to 80 hours of community service to reduce a criminal record, with fines covering administrative costs. District Court Judge Stanley Bennett and others supported the plan, noting potential fit within county structure and its potential benefits, while some questioned its appropriateness for certain offenders.
