Proposed budget cuts may raise child abuse in Frederick County
Frederick County faces rising child abuse reports as proposed federal budget cuts threaten public aid such as food stamps and fuel assistance. Robert Twentey of the Department of Social Services notes increases in abuse and neglect, with emergency placements and many cases involving adolescents. He cites economic stress as a contributing factor while stressing that poverty alone does not cause abuse.
