Atlantic Pact Not Safeguard Against Russia, Speaker Says
Dr Valentine de Balla of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland told Frederick Rotary Club that the Atlantic Pact offers no safeguard against a Russian European attack. He argued the real barrier lies in Spain and the Iberian peninsula with Gibraltar, urging diplomatic recognition of Franco’s regime by democracies. He cited life in Budapest under Red occupation and Franco Spain’s policies, contrasting totalitarian regimes with Spain’s personal liberties and travel rights. He criticized U S Reds propaganda and biased commentators for blocking Spain’s inclusion and noted U S relations with other dictatorships and Chiang Kai-Shek and Stalin.
