The Protestant Episcopal church of the Diocese of Maryland holds its 107th annual convention at St. Peter's in Baltimore beginning Wednesday May 20 for several days. The diocese covers Maryland excluding the Eastern Shore plus Washington and the District of Columbia. First service is at 10 am with an opening sermon by the Bishop’s appointee. Washington report notes the passing of Samuel J. Randall at about 5 a.m. at his Capitol Hill home. The death was painless, with his daughter hearing him utter only the word Mother in his final hours. Funeral arrangements are set for Thursday morning with services at Metropolitan Presbyterian Church, followed by a private interment in Philadelphia.
Berlin’s work on the new freight yards advances with about two miles of switch track laid and rapid completion of the main track on the south side. Soon trains may run entirely on that side, speeding project pace. The Gettysburg and Washington Railroad may soon reach Westminster with a branch to tap Green Spring Valley Railroad at Owings Mills. The line would connect Westminster to Baltimore and Washington and northern coal regions, spurring new development and prosperity. Geo Cox, inmate at Monteque Hospital, escaped during a walk, but was recaptured with staff and returned to his cell after swimming to an island in the central lake.
