Paul Bellamy editor emeritus of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, 71, died suddenly at dinner with his wife and a friend. He retired in January 1954 after 25 years as editor and remained active in journalism circles, planning travel to Washington and New York. Sketches For Fort s By Pass Examined For Plans
Preliminary sketches for the Fort Detrick by pass section were informally approved by city and county officials in Willard s office. State Roads Commission surveyors prepared layouts for sections from West Seventh to Kemp road and from Kemp road east to Military road. Final plans are being prepared with potential widening of West Fourth street extending to Apple avenue as the Frederick by pass crosses the Fourth street pike. Federal funds cover part of the cost and a June 1 closing date for Seventh street is hoped to be extended until the by pass is built.

Fire damages trailer near Thurmont in early morning blaze
Clarence Shriver’s trailer on Kelbaugh road suffered ceiling and wall damage from a fire started by an overheated stove around 7 30. Firemen estimated 300 dollars in damage and credited the Shrivers with saving the trailer. Thurmont volunteers aided by Rocky Ridge firefighters also battled a separate field fire on the George Wilhide farm near Creagerstown, burning about eight acres.
