No Further Farm Pond Building Limits Ponds

The Soil Conservation Service will stop helping construct large farm ponds in Frederick County due to Maryland geology agency rules. Ponds over 10 feet deep or over 1,000,000 gallons require strict specs, raising installation costs beyond justified levels. County has many ponds under SCS, all satisfactory with minor seepage noted. Local districts urged to check pond clarity now as filamentous algae may form. Montgomery County added to SCS jurisdiction. Fred Hazen heads Rockville office. Thousands of trees and shrubs are being distributed free by SCS across Frederick Catoctin and Carroll districts to Farms. 10,000 multiflora rose plants available and up to 200,000 could be placed in Frederick County.
