Butler Arrives in Pantapermia for Trial In Chester Suit
Gen Benjamin F Butler registers at Continental Hotel in Pantapermia and argues for Cadet Merrick in a damages suit against Pennsylvania Military Academy. Merrick, who lost both arms saluting French visitors at the Yorktown Centennial, is the plaintiff. Butler busy with client, no visitors received. In other dispatches from Curiaco, Portland reports a Chinese labor plan for Mexico, and Bavaria's King Ludwig’s odd conduct as Austrian Emperor visits. The Washington inquiry into the telephone industry notes Attorney General Garland’s refusal to testify and a threatened appeal to the President.
