Russians Press Allies On Berlin Highway Aid
In Berlin on April 11 the Russians urged Britain and the United States to close mobile aid stations along the Berlin Helmstedt highway, threatening to curb traffic. British and American officials indicated replies would be prepared, while stations on the 125 mile Berlin to Heimstedt stretch remainer operational. The move ties to broader limits on Western access to Berlin after a Soviet fighter strike last week killed 15, including the pilot, prompting memorial services attended by German civilians and Western generals.
