Fires Along B and O Tracks Threaten Point of Rocks
A string of four fires along a five mile B and O rail corridor near Point of Rocks began when a rocked brake on Freight No. 9 caused sparks about 2 45 pm. Fire crews from Carroll Manor Brunswick Frederick County and other units fought the blazes for six hours with hand tools and forest wardens on site. One blaze at the tunnel west end burned about 21 acres of woodland and six acres of grass while the Kanawha fire scorched about an acre of undergrowth. Total acreage and losses were not yet estimated.

Repair Considered At Middletown Reservoir
Middletown Town Council considered repairs on the 1.5 million gallon reservoir and a test of the newly installed 490 foot deep community well. A test concrete slab will be poured near the top of the reservoir to address erosion from freeze thaw. The town well now yields 30 to 40 gallons per minute from the 100 foot level of a 400 foot deep well and will be tested for total capacity with a pump attached.
