Frederick man helped plan Capitol and White House

A Frederick resident, Thomas Johnson, helped arrange the early plans for the Capitol and the President's House after being chosen by George Washington in 1791 to chair the Federal City Commission. His role connected to L'Enfant's firing and Thornton's Capitol design, with bids and commissions shaping the nation’s early federal buildings.

County Has Good Road Network

Frederick county's extensive network of state and county roads ranks among Maryland's largest by mileage. The system includes over 200 miles of state roads with about 20 miles of dual highways, the Frederick by-pass near completion to route through traffic around the city, and the new Washington National Pike linking at its northern Frederick terminus to Germantown. U.S. 40 and U.S. 15 also pass through the county, with the Pike connecting toward West Patrick Street.
