Frederick County still protects three venerable covered bridges in the north, near Owens Creek north of Loys Station and between Route 15 corridors. Ceiling Violations Alleged In U. S. Suit
The Baltimore Office of Price Administration filed a federal suit for 110900 treble damages against the Schloss Corporation Dan Schrossi and Samuel Ginsberg alleging ceiling violations in selling government surplus goods. The action targets items from war surplus including neoprene fabric and related products with others sold as is at higher ceilings. Purchasers who resold items face separate suits for about 50000 in Pittsburgh.

Escaped Soldier Returned to Camp by FBI Handoff
Police said Calvin Lidie of Frederick was placed in FBI custody and handed to Army authorities for return to a Texas camp from which he had escaped weeks earlier. Lidie, serving five years on a ward labor term for multiple misdemeanors, fled guards in Texas and prompted a broad manhunt led by Lieut. Frank Dorsey. An agent reported Lidie back in Frederick after Mrs. Lidie urged him to surrender. He was taken to Baltimore by Military Police from the city yesterday.

Guilty Of Starting Brush Fire Fined Ten Dollars
Noah Mullendore of near Chestnut Grove Washington County was found guilty and fined 10 dollars plus costs before Magistrate E G Miller in Boonsboro for starting a brush fire before 4 pm on Sunday. District Forest Warden Herman Toms reported three fires that day, one on Roy Crowls farm east of Brunswick, another on South Mountain, and a third near Wolfs ville crossing on the dual highway.

Police Court Cases Tie Up Wednesday Night
Past records of offenses against peace and order were heard by Mag istrate Sherman P. Bowers. Elmer L. Bryant of Frederick was sentenced to 40 days in jail in default of a $50 fine and Charles Lenhart of the city a $40 fine for peace disturbance by fighting. Other cases were infractions of automobile laws including Herman F. Wachter fined $1.75 for driving without lights on West Patrick Street. Wachter claimed he forgot to switch them on, and Trooper Richard A. Myers testified. Both Wachter and another driver were found not guilty of reckless driving after a hearing into a collision near Jefferson. Cyrus J. Ramer of Hagerstown and Kenneth E. Mensing of Martinsburg were cited in the same incident. Annie H. Drewry of Landover paid $5.75 for operating an automobile without a license, claiming her husband was tired and let her drive. Traffic collaterals were forfeited by Alvin M. Lapins of La Jolla, Cal, for $6.45 with no plates, and Arnold Welch of Beverly, W. Va., fined $11.45 for no license.
