Counterfeit plant raid shocks city with Swedish fugitive
New York April 11 A man calling himself Albers Jensen is revealed not to be Jensen and is wanted by authorities in Sweden and the United States. John Albert Skoog a Swedish-born counterfeiter escaped Joliet prison in 1897 and is said to be one of the most expert counterfeiters alive. After purchasing American notes at a Broadway bank counterfeits, Skoog fled as police closed in. He shot himself in the head as officers cornered him, and he lies in a hospital. A grand raid by Chief Hazen followed, yielding evidence of a hidden counterfeit operation and a seizure of Bank of Sko and Copenhagen notes among other items.
