Soviet Farm Leader Ousted in reshuffle at top agricultural posts
MOSCOW April 9 The Soviet Union announced a reshuffle in its agricultural leadership. Premier Bulganin replaced Trofim Lysenko as president of the All Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences and named P P Lobanov to succeed him as head of the farm ministry. Lobanov’s deputy role shifted to Matskevich, who becomes deputy premier. Lysenko’s fall follows Stalin’s death as his environment over heredity theory faced world scientific criticism. The May municipal election outlines multiple nominations and a low turnout precedes the biennial vote.
