Penicillin and early antibiotics reshape medical care
Dr Long discusses aging burdens and the promise of antibiotics. He traces penicillin’s rise from discovery in 1920s England to mass production by Johns Hopkins during WWII, noting high costs and a cured heart patient after $5,000 of treatment. Streptomycin is cited as a later breakthrough with broader disease impact. A separate brief notes a residential fire at 16 Fast Patrick, with no injuries reported.
