Legend of Linganore and the White Serpent Tale
A fragment from Home Journal retells a Linganore legend set in Western Maryland. From a hilltop lookout a river community watches a white-faced, pale figure approach and a young woman named Tons wanda contemplates the stranger as a white man appears by a secluded pool. The tale blends reverence for nature with fear of “white faces” and the mysterious, dangerous white serpent and eagle. The scene highlights cultural clash and a coming of age moment for the heroine as she encounters the outsider.
