Montgomery Board of Education to negotiate with Cody
The Montgomery County Board of Education unanimously authorized negotiations for a four year contract with Dr Wilmer S. Cody of Birmingham. The board will set terms, including salary currently listed at 74 000 plus benefits, with Cody expressing excitement about the prospects. Concerns about lack of collective bargaining experience were acknowledged by board president Blair G Ewing, who noted consideration of evaluations from major county organizations. Cody, in Birmingham, declined to comment on negotiations, saying discussions should conclude favorably, and emphasized negotiations are not handled by the superintendent. The contract would begin July 1 following J Edward Andrews Jr. retirement, with Cody aiming to visit and transition beforehand. Cody has 23 years in education and is also a finalist for Baltimore City superintendent.
