Hagerstown Youth Dies In Cliff Fall
A 17 year old Hagerstown youth died after falling 500 feet from a cliff in Maryland Heights to a rocky ledge. Thomas Edward Eves and five others climbed the precipice as rescue teams carried the injured to Washington County Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The investigation was led by Cpl Spickler with state police and hospital officials noting massive fractures and a hemothorax as cause.

ANNAPOLIS AP The Maryland General Assembly is deadlocked over Gov. Mandel backed bill to implement the new district court system created by a 1967 constitutional amendment. Disagreement centers on whether district court convictions receive a de novo trial on appeal. House would grant de novo review in most cases except civil suits over 500. Senate would phase out de novo in criminal cases and civil suits over 2500 by 1972 and all de novo appeals by 1973, meaning circuit appeals run on the district court record.
