Railroads Face Rising Costs and Declining Income
G M Campbell of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad told Lions at the Francis Scott Key hotel that a third of railroads are in receivership as costs rise while revenue falls. He cited high taxes, Social Security and wage hikes, and warned consolidation would cut jobs, noting B&O employs nearly 30,000 and pays substantial interest. He recounted historical routing of the Frederick line and a branch due to earlier surveying challenges.
