Suspect says he fired warning shots in Baltimore case
Nathaniel Hurt 62 testified he fired three or four warning shots over teens heads in east Baltimore to protect himself after being threatened. He denies intent to kill Vernon Holmes Jr., 13, who was shot in the back while fleeing a dispute over vandalism and rocks. Prospects of urban fear syndrome cited by defense and questioned by prosecutors.

Baggy pants hinder fleeing youths as police chase ends
Two youths sought a stolen 1995 Jeep in Mount Airy and Thurmont area. They crashed on Tower Road after a brief pursuit, the younger youth tangled in briars when his baggy pants slowed him. The 17 year old driver and companion, both from Mount Airy, were jailed for theft over 300 dollars, probation violation, and unauthorized use of a vehicle. They were taken to Noyes detention center.

Firefighters extinguished a 5 acre Sugarloaf Mountain brush fire that burned Tuesday night. DNR officials cautioned arson as a possibility while noting earlier 25 acre estimates were inflated by nighttime visibility. Fire officially declared out at 2 35 p m Thursday with mop up continuing in dry windy conditions and a slim rain chance ahead.
