Political clash over Formosa aid sparks debate in Congress
In April thirty four years ago this week United States debate on conscription rises amid mixed party views. Republican leader Joseph W. Martin questions why Nationalist forces on Formosa are not used to open a second Asiatic front, contrasting with General MacArthur's stance that China’s Communists threaten Korea. The piece contrasts diplomacy, military needs, and a shift toward possible greater use of Chiang Kai-Shek's forces in China. It notes the context of Korea and mentions hospital updates for local individuals and a cadet promotion in Woodstock, Virginia.
