A Week’s Failures in 1890 First Quarter Totals
The first quarter of 1890 recorded 3,223 business failures versus 3,311 a year earlier, with declines in the East South and Pacific States but increases in the Middle and Western States. Liabilities reached 37,952,968 dollars against 42,972,516 last year, rising in the South and Middle States. Over the past week 206 failures occurred nationally, 199 in the United States and 13 in Canada, down from 249 the prior week and 255 the week before. Last year’s corresponding week showed 222 failures, 187 in the United States and 35 in Canada.

Weather Crop Bulletin Averages Show Cooler Week
