Former HDC consultant Cherilyn Widell wins Fulbright 1991
Cherilyn Widell, former Frederick Historic District Commission consultant and ex Maryland Association of Historic District Commissions executive director, earns a Fulbright scholarship for 1991 1992. She will research architectural preservation in Japan with the Japan National Ministry of Construction and National Trust, lecture, and consult with Japanese firms owning U S historic landmarks. Widell, a Hood College alumna, has long lectured on preservation and received the Calvert Prize in 1986 for historic preservation work.

Frederick County offers senior fire and rescue training program
The Frederick County Board of Education approves fall fire and rescue training for seniors in the career and technology program. Instructors from the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute will teach 156 hours basic and intermediate fire training, 110 hours EMT, 30 hours hazmat awareness, and 45 hours rescue technician training. Eligible students must be 16 or older seniors, members of a volunteer department, with a department chief letter of recommendation and their own transportation.
