Planning Board Rejects Germantown and Dickerson Waste Sites

Silver Spring reports the county planning board dropped Germantown and Dickerson as final study sites for a central solid waste facility. Four locations were under review including sites near Rockville and Montgomery Village. Officials cite rail access, industrial zoning, and proximity to existing facilities as key factors while noting traffic and regional opposition. The project envisions a six acre indoor depot handling up to 600 trucks daily with 1,750 tons of waste daily by 1977. The board must choose a single site this summer amid local objections and infrastructure constraints.

Judge Upholds Rent Contract Ruling In Local Case

Circuit Court Judge Joseph McMathias affirmed the Landlord Tenant Commission ruling on a Sandford Tesant Law case. Seymour Werner of University Towers in Silver Spring had signed a notice accepting a rent hike when choosing to stay rather than move, with the court determining the rent increase occurred before a county rent control law took effect. The decision supported that Werner had a real choice between staying and paying the higher rent or moving out.
