Parking Back of City Hall Moves Forward in Frederick
Frederick officials advanced downtown parking by proposing 56 spaces behind City Hall and Opera House, expanding the off street plan with an eight member commission. The Walters plan adds a 36 car lot behind City Hall, while tearing down 60 feet of unused market rear to gain 19 spaces, but a costlier Opera House remodel was rejected.

The Frederick City Board debated a plan to add 15 parking meters for a trial but did not approve. The city engineer was to remove a traffic hazard near the Greyhound terminal and address flooding at Staley Park. Alderman Burall urged a survey of city phone booths for possible license fees or revenue. Police Chief Main was to oversee it. County officials ordered an immediate assessment of the Frederick Shopping Center on West Seventh Street, valued at 1.3 million dollars. A chimney fire on North Market Street caused minor smoke damage with Juniors manning the scene until firefighters arrived.
