Hat Saves Man From Death in Bethel Shootingincident
W H Freed of Bethel escaped a fatal wound when a bullet struck his hat deflecting and breaking a flap. He noticed two youths fleeing the scene near his home at about 8 30 pm after shots from a 432 revolver at roughly 35 feet. He alerted the sheriff and an investigation began. The wound was a scalp cut treated by Dr F H Hedges. Freed recalls no enemies in the area. He is the son of Edwin Freed of the city.
