Medevac water rescue rules limit hoisting by state police
Maryland State Police Medevac operations continue river searches with hoist use restricted to non hoisting roles. Spokesman Chuck Jackson cited FAA approval delays and interim safety measures after a January crash prompted review. Pilots will follow 250 pound weight limits and rely on larger helicopters under legislative talks. Local rescue groups fear delays yet acknowledge helicopters’ value for night rescues and hard to reach sites.

Hood College wins $43000 grant to study enrollment shifts
Hood College has been awarded a $43000 grant to study enrollment trends and planning. President Martha E. Church says results will help Hood respond positively to enrollment challenges over the next five to eight years. The grant pool totals $1.2 million for twelve colleges across two states, funded by a corporate and foundation consortium. Hood will run three major activities including demographic trend analysis, competitive position study, and campus-wide dissemination and training. Schedule notes list events at Frederick facilities the week of April 7–11, plus a Harpers Ferry Civil War Round Table meeting on April 9 with speaker Dennis Frye.
