State Roads Program To Be Determined
The Frederick area and interested sections will likely learn in two to three weeks what to expect from major state highway improvements this year. Maryland State Roads Commissioner Russell McCain described an overall plan for two to three years and outlined routes including Route 240 projects toward Clarksburg and a new link from Evergreen Point to Lime Kiln. A long debated route into Washington is being studied with estimates due in three weeks to enable quick decisions on a legacy problem. Proposals include routing the Frederick freeway via Thomas Branch valley to River Road, then along River Road toward Goldsboro and beyond, with interchanges near Wood Acres and Seringfield subdivision and a tunnel under MacArthur Boulevard toward Canal Road.

Planning Commission Eyes Wider Right of Way
Planning officials consider steps to stop new building along the route. The outlined plan calls for a 200 foot right of way with two 24 foot lanes separated by a strip, plus 50 feet of park land each side. It could allow adding a third or even fourth 12 foot lane, with reductions to 125 or 150 feet in tight spots.
