Potomac cleanup nets cannonball and Beetle among junk
Volunteers clearing Potomac River banks in Virginia Maryland and Washington DC found a cannonball a locked safe and even a Volkswagen Beetle as they combed 56 sites. About 2 000 volunteers counted more than 2 600 golf and other balls this year far above last year as flood damage from January left the riverbanks look like a junkyard and raised questions about nature’s cycle and human impact.
