Maryland Legislature Accepts Windfall Tax Compromise
Maryland General Assembly approved a plan to split windfall federal tax reform dollars with 68.5 percent returned to individuals. The bill funds 24 counties and Baltimore City to stabilize local piggyback taxes, with Frederick County gaining about $524,600, and Montgomery County set to net $5.7 million. Baltimore City expects a $1.76 million guarantee. Washington County adds $129,500. The plan shifts dollars away from local governments but enhances taxpayer returns, with total back to taxpayers estimated between $81.9 million and $122.8 million depending on windfall size.
