Cotton Plant Fire Destroys 19 Shops Total Loss Over $23,000
A major blaze in Cotton Plant Arkansas destroyed nineteen frame business houses along the main street. Losses totaled about 23,100 with only 1,650 in insurance. The fire started in the Mayberry building, likely from two drunken men on the second floor. one man died in flames and an inquest was set for Friday. Water works failed to check the blaze until it reached brick structures. The Independent listed numerous losses with many uninsured properties including Mayberry’s law office, Masonic hall, grocery stores, the Arkansan plant, and various shops and garages.

Cunningham's Critical Condition
Harry Gunningham who was shot at Malden on July 17 was moved from the local area to the Arkansas penitentiary in Little Rock by Deputy Warden J C Moore. He had escaped a convict farm camp last February and had at least two prior escapes. Doctors fear her death from the wound. Miss Jessie Burge of Clarendon visited Sulphur Rock then returned home.

Tramps Die In Iron Mountain Freight Wreck North Of Okane
An extra southbound freight wrecked Friday morning near Okane on the Iron Mountain after a journal burn on a forward box car. Three tramps riding in a wheat car were smothered by grain. Seven cars ditched containing grain iron and ties. Wrecking crews from Poplar Bluff and nearby rushed to the scene.

Osceola Arkansas September 8. A mob formed to lynch Baldy Taylor a negro after he was wounded in a coach shooting incident at Luxora. Eugene K Hughes a lumberman and planter died from his injuries while H G Fisher also a lumberman lay near death.
