Warrants issued by Justice Drennen of Big Bottom township accuse George F. Crossy head of assault on Mrs. Henchley. He was arraigned, waived examination, and posted 1000 bond for circuit court. Scrimmage Brawl Ends With Gene Parker Shot In Cheek
Saturday night a street fight near Ra and Front streets ended when Gene Parker was shot in the cheek by Tom Roseman during a beer dispute. Parker fled to Gullette's store. Roseman fired twice, prompting a hurried retreat. Abe Roseman and Tom remained at large Sunday amid the melee that involved hoes rakes and chairs.

Divergence on Governor Davis bill survival dispute

May 21 Little Reel Ark a charter was granted to the Batesville and Jacksonport railway company for 4 22 miles from Batesville to Jacksonport connecting with the Rock Island. It will parallel the Iron Mountain between it and White river with incorporators in Batesville St Louis Newport and Little Rock. Construction to begin at once on the old B B road survey with a cheap route aside from a bridge at Jacksonport.

Governor Davis Vetoes Record 85 House and 11 Senate Bills
In Little Rock on May 24 Governor Davis vetoed eighty five house bills and eleven senate bills, the largest such action in Arkansas and possibly U.S. history. Scaife Accidentally Shoots Self Near Lumber Yard
Orge Scaife, a Black man, accidentally shot himself Tuesday morning near the Newport Lumber Supply & Hardware building. The bullet pierced his right forearm, entering the ulna and exiting about six inches above. He claimed a revolver from his hip pocket discharged accidentally, similar to an incident years ago. Several others from Swifton and Tupelo joined Saturday travelers over the Choctaw front from New Orleans reunion.
