Drunken farmer arrested after street disturbance
James Wallace of the White river area caused a public scene Saturday prompting Marshal Stephens to arrest him after he refused to leave town. Assisted by St Biggers, seven or eight men restrained him and jailed him. Both Wallace and Biggers pled guilty Monday. Wallace paid 20 dollars and costs for release. Biggers 35 dollars and costs and stayed in jail for nonpayment.

Child Found Sleeping After Two Days Lost Near Nuckell's Switch
The five year old son of Thomas Bridges vanished Friday evening near Nuckell's Switch. After a woodland search by neighbors, the boy was found Sunday afternoon sleeping peacefully on the ground about 300 yards from the discovery point. He showed no illness from two days without food and a night in rain.

Dairyman A Mehngot Dies in City at 50
A Mehngot dairyman living at the fair grounds died Thursday at 2 p m and was buried Friday morning in Newport Cemetery. Rev J W Smith led services at home. A loving husband and father, of French descent, left a wife and a young daughter. He moved here years ago to enter the dairy business and was well liked by those who knew him.

Death by Drowning Near Paroquet on Black River
Ed Shiflit, a local resident near Paroquet, drowned Saturday evening in the Black River above the bridge while swimming with seven or eight companions. The group attempted rescue. two friends reached the bank exhausted, and Shiflit's body was recovered and he was buried Monday morning.

Jackson County Pension Commissioners met in the county judge's office and reviewed thirty eight applications. Nine were disallowed and the rest approved. Man Falls From Pump Platform At Iron Mountain Station
John Elliott a 35 year old pumper at Iron Mountain station fell 18 feet from the pump platform to the river level Monday afternoon suffering serious hip injuries and possible internal trauma. Road surgeon Dr Willis aided then Elliott was taken to his boarding house and later to a train for St Louis hospital. He slipped after misjudging a removed platform while fixing the pump.

Orlando Sunk After Collision 26 Miles Above De Valls Bluff
The Orlando steamboat belonging to the Memphis and White River Packet Company struck a log Friday afternoon between Devil's Hill and Peach Orchard, sank in seven minutes with no lives lost though freight was total.
