Smithee Journalist Found Dead in Hotel Room
Little Rock July 5 Col J N Smithee a veteran newsman in the region died by his own hand Friday. His body was found this afternoon in the Merchant's Hotel room after a chambermaid reported a locked door and authorities forced entry. A 32 caliber pistol was used with death likely 24 hours prior.

Thirteen Year Old Son Of Sconyers Drowns In Village Creek
Johnnie Sconyers, 13, son of T J Sconyers and well known planter, drowned Sunday afternoon in Village Creek one mile below Murphy bridge at the Russian ford. He slipped from a log while bathing, could not swim, and was pulled from eight feet of water by a diver about three quarters of an hour later and buried Monday.
