Jail Breaker Foiled In Arkansas jailbreak attempt

Ed Guen of Jonesboro Illinois was captured in Pocahontas after breaking out the jail with tools supplied from the roof. He was recaptured by Sheriff Russell as Illinois sheriff departed with the prisoner to stand trial in Jonesboro. Guen had a wife and three children and had worked in a local mill.

A telegram from Washington states that J C Minor’s resignation as a medical board member was refused by the department. The old board will continue to hear cases and applications. The proposed increase in board members will be considered later.

Private Secretary Chas. Jacobson stated there is no truth to rumors that Governor Davis will summon an extra legislative session after the March primaries. The supposed aim was to seek funds for the maintenance of the deaf mute institute.

Two Iron Mountain detectives and local citizens drive out tramps in Hoxie Arkansas. A committee issues a stark warning to hoboes travelers and thieves to leave town by nightfall or face rough treatment. The notice dates to December 1903.

Frisco Reopens Plan for Independent Line to New Orleans

New York December 9 reports say the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad revived plans for an independent line to New Orleans after renewing options on a right of way. Negotiations with Iron Mountain over Memphis to Baton Rouge traffic split over Frisco not agreeing to forgo local traffic, though Frisco has invested heavily in New Orleans terminals.

New Frisco Passenger Station Opened in Fort Smith

The Frisco Railway formally opened its new $40,000 Fort Smith depot with a public celebration. Alderman W. J. Johnson presided, Col. B. E. Davidson presented the building, Mayor Kuper accepted for the city, and Senator Sengel praised the railroad’s generosity. The event featured Punch by young ladies, cigars, and dancing until midnight.

Mrs Emerson R Crum Dies From Thanksgiving Fire Injuries

Helena story reports Mrs Emerson R Crum died from burns suffered on Thanksgiving night when her husband dropped a lit mat and flames enveloped her. The 26 year old daughter of Henry P Grant left husband C Crum and a 3 year old son Grant. Funeral services were held at home on Pecan Street with Rev C H Lockwood, interment Maple Hill Cemetery.
