Dr Samuel Adelson 67 a surgeon and longtime Newport leader in Jewish affairs died this morning at his home 198 Rhode Island Avenue after a recent decline in health He was born in Russia July 4 1897 and came to Newport with his parents in 1904 He practiced at the former Bateman House and later on Touro Street He served as president of the Rhode Island Medical Society and held posts on the Newport County Medical Society High School Commission and state medical groups He was active in Democratic politics and local boards including the Congregation Israel He died after a brief hospitalization and his home was a center of community activity Continued on Page 2
