Horrible Fate In Mine Disaster At Pittston
In Wilkesbarre area on a Saturday morning a roof collapse trapped about 100 miners in the Red Ash vein of the Ywih shart at Pittston. Rescue efforts saved some but most perished or were feared dead as the cave extended more than 1500 feet, with officials delaying as further falls and firedamp risks raised. Acting Mayor Langan and other officials were among those inside at the time.
