David Scott Tremblay, 18, a recent Middletown High School graduate, died after his car overturned on Hanging Rock Road near Second Beach. Passenger Alfred J. LoPiano, 18, was treated for a cut arm and released. Tremblay was pronounced dead at Newport Hospital. cause listed as skull fracture and brain injury. Funeral services scheduled at St Mary’s Church.

$4.7 Million Grant Aids Historic Hill Redevelopment
The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development approved a $4,756,000 grant to continue financing the Historic Hill Redevelopment project in the historic district. Sen. Pastore and Sen. Pell along with Rep. St Germain announced the approval. William H. Leys of the Redevelopment Agency notes most work in the district is complete with road work and demolition ongoing. The project includes 900 feet of road construction, demolition of affected buildings, purchase of Egan's Laundry, and sewer and water separation costing about $1 million for this phase.
