A drug abuse prevention workshop for summer playground and beach workers in Newport County will be held on a weekday morning at the Martin Recreation Center. The Aquidneck Island Law Enforcement Council sponsors the event to educate staff about prevention strategies.

Gault 19 pleaded guilty to backing into a parked car and leaving the scene. fined 50 dollars. Bobby L. Johnson 21 pleaded guilty to speeding on Memorial Boulevard. fined 75 dollars. Pamela Rice 23 pleaded guilty to a traffic violation. fined 40 dollars. Steven R. Marquette 22 pleaded innocent to operating a motorcycle without a license. fined 10 dollars. Mary L. Reeves 45 pleaded innocent to speeding. fined 15 dollars.
A youth snatched a purse from Mimie Swenson at 14 Appleby St before noon yesterday, taking 340 in cash and papers. A break-in at Ma Barlovento's Lounge on West Broadway yielded over 70 from game and vending machines between 1 30 and 11 05 adm yesterday, entry gained through a window sill. Mrs Mildred Babe Ring Judge 55 of 19 Chapel Street Newport died yesterday after a short illness. She was wife of Melvin H Judge Sr and a Newport Legion Auxiliary and St Marys Parish Guild member. Funeral from Murphy Funeral Home to St Marys Church for 10 a.m. mass burial in St Columba Cemetery.
Robert J. Nagle 56 of 547 Spring St died last night at Deaconess Hospital Boston after a long illness. An electrician for W.H. Griff Co for 2 years he served as staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps in World War II with Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal honors. Survived by wife Rita Ritchie Nagle a son Robert L. Nagle daughter Kathleen E. Nagle brother John Naple seven sisters and numerous relatives. Funeral Friday from Memorial Funeral Home to St Augustin's Church with mass at 10. Retired French general Jacques de Ballardiere, a wartime hero who opposed Algerian torture, sails toward Mururoa Atoll with a priest and two pacifists to protest France's atmospheric nuclear blasts. Jean-Jacques Servan Schreiber joins the demonstration, while officials say no exact date has been released.
Capt. Robert F. Delaney of the Naval War College spoke at Jamestown Historical Society about the Navy in the Newport area. He noted the Civil War move of the Naval Academy to Newport, recalled the Constitution’s escape, and described the War College as the oldest in its field. He discussed future ship staffing and war gaming’s evolution, and mentioned Navy taxation and museum events at St Matthew's parish house.

A window was shattered by an air rifle shot on a parked car. the owner is Sara A Foster of 73 Bliss Road with $60 window repair. Paul F Neal of Dighton Mass had a car stolen near Skippers Dock at Thames and West Pelham Streets at 1 20 a.m. Monday. A car rear fires were stolen near Rogers High School between 7 and 10 p.m. yesterday. owner is Berard Kane of 40 Channing Street.
Chief Operations Specialist David A. Julius received the Navy Medal for Outstanding Service as adviser to Vietnamese Coastal Groups 11 and 42 on the Cua Viet River aboard the cruiser Little Rock. Rear Adm. Thomas B. R. Weschler presented the award. Julius serves in the readiness and training division of the Cruiser Destroyer Force Atlantic Fleet.
The United Hebrew School held its annual Sunday outing at Yiantomumi Memorial Park featuring a fathers versus sons softball game. The sons won 15 to 1 led by Steven Dannin and David Bolusky with tight defense from Jay Lasky. Winners by age group included Gary Rubin and others, with prizes awarded by Harvey Goldberg.

Newport Police say the Fraternal Order of Police lodge here does not sanction fundraising by another FOP lodge, the Naval Base Security Police unit. A Newport FOP spokesman cites local business burden and states the Newport lodge opposes soliciting by any FOP lodges in the city. Raymond Mello, base FOP president, was unavailable for comment.
Two eight year old children were injured in separate outdoor falls yesterday. Laurie Dupont of 4 William Street was transported by rescue wagon to Newport Hospital at 3:42 p.m. for a head cut. Jack Bond of 2842 Marsh Street went to Naval Hospital at 1:03 p.m. with a cut suffered in the fall.
