Two-Car Collision Fatal for 21-Year-Old Willam Bishop
A two car crash at Aquidneck Avenue and Green End Avenue in Middletown killed Willam Bishop, 21, of Greene Lane, and injured three others. passengers Edward Kroll, 25, and Thomas Anderson, 28, were treated for injuries. Anderson was held for observation and admitted later after delaying treatment. Fire crews freed the victims after nearly an hour. Furtado’s car overturned, Car one destroyed, car two damaged.

Aquidneck Bicycle Club Formed in Middletown Meet
Eighteen bicycle enthusiasts formed the Aquidneck Bicycle Club and held its first meeting at Hiway Bowl in Middletown. Officers named are Paul Del Nero president Roger LaBlanc vice president John Escallier secretary and Phil Hopper treasurer. Newpoct Festival Opens With 200 Cars Saturday
The sixth annual Newpoct begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with registration at St. Marys Church Portsmouth. Cars will be judged and a twilight tour starts at 4 30 p m from the Hotel Viking. On Sunday they assemble at Portsmouth Abbey School and parade to Belcourt Castle arriving at 2 p.m. Trophy events include Belcourt trophies and eight nominations plus 42 awards for first second and third places.
