PROVIDENCE AP The League of Women Voters says Gov Frank Licht will check the validity of nominating procedures used to fill three vacancies on the State Board of Regents Mary Hazeltine president of Use Teague and two other representatives told the governor Tuesday they worry about how the regent nominees were chosen Hazeltine said Licht agreed to review the process to avoid future challenges noting the short notice for the nominating meeting He said he believes the session was legal State law requires a 15 member nominating committee to meet by March 1 each year submit a list of two to four candidates for each vacancy by May 1 Chairman Daniel J Murray concedes deadlines were missed but asserts the committee remained legally constituted when it met June 2 and selected two staff of 32 candidates for the three posts.
