The Army announced plans to discharge 473,000 ready reservists and transfer 500,900 to the standby reserve over 12 months. It aims to retain only those with immediate active duty qualifications, prioritizing Korea veterans, while preserving volunteers with no prior active service.

The North Korean countered that the plan threatens peace, but unofficially both sides expect no major trouble. The truce group now has 19 personnel at Inchon Pu san and Kunsan, with a similar force in North Korea ports.
Former President Truman and Chancellor Adenauer urged patience and firmness by free nations to pursue world peace. They conferred 20 minutes in Bonn, with Truman calling the visit pleasant. Adenauer praised Truman’s stance on rebuilding Germany and agreed peace requires confidence and patience. Truman noted Adlai Stevenson’s California primary win as good news and said he has no favored candidate.
Search continued today for four Navy airmen missing since a Tuesday crash off the Rhode Island coast during flight operations aboard the carrier Antietam. The identified crew were Cmdr C. H. Lichauser of East Greenwich pilot Lt Glen A. Wilson co pilot Richard G. Weeks of North Kingstown electronics technician and A C Nuckols Jr of Quonset machinist. The Slane twin engine S2F-1 Sentinel crashed about 9 pm.
