Rogers High School Awards Ceremony Highlights Student Honors
Rogers Assembly Presented Awards at Rogers High School with music by the stage band. Theodore Durgin led a colors routine by the ROTC unit and the pledge of allegiance. Patricia Gail Peterson received the Rensselaer mathematics and science award. Peter McFarland earned the Brown backward. Nettie Caswell and Lynda Mathinos received Maurice Gilsburg history award and Sons of the Revolution award respectively. Multiple faculty and community figures distributed dozens of department and program awards across language arts, foreign language, guidance, library, vocational startups, and technical trades.

Judge Denies Man’s Plea To Be Tried For Murder
Charles Edward Cook, jailed in Cranston since the fatal 1959 stabbing of Jahm J. Egan, sought trial in adult court claiming restored reason. Three psychiatrists said he could assist counsel, but Judge Mullen relied on Dr Antonio Capone’s view that Cook lacks full appreciation of the trial’s meaning, ruling he cannot stand trial.

Peabody formerly of Middletown and Honyman Hill. she was a designer for Providence jewelry firms, born Windsor Vermont Sept 15 1914. Auto Accidents Hurt Four During Night
Four people injured in separate late night crashes in Middletown and Newport. Cornelius Silvia, 25, from Middletown, suffered facial bruises after his car rolled onto its roof on Berkeley Avenue. firemen freed him and he was taken to Newport Hospital. In another incident on Memorial Boulevard, two people were hurt when a car pushed onto the grass center strip after a collision on Red Cross Avenue near Ellery Road. Barbara Murphy and Edward Murphy were treated for injuries, with Edward Murphy also sustaining neck pains and scalp bruises, both taken to Newport Hospital by rescue wagon. A third collision at LeRoy and Lawrence Avenues injured a passenger, Judy Masselli, 21, of Middletown, treated at Newport Hospital for a cut on the leg. Authorities identified drivers William Bolli of Cantonsville, Md., and Donald Masgelli of Middletown, Conn.
